Modernizing Legacy Ecosystems: The Case of notin.es

Throughout my 20 years of experience, I've participated in numerous migrations and architectural evolutions. However, the work we do daily within the notin.es ecosystem (Distribuciones Notariales Group) is, from a software engineering perspective, one of the most comprehensive and challenging.

The Legacy Challenge

A few years ago, much of the legal sector relied on monolithic architectures. Heavy systems, tightly coupled applications, and technologies like jQuery or WordPress which, while serving their purpose at the time, limited the iteration speed and scalability required to support hundreds of concurrent notaries.

The goal was clear: we needed an ecosystem that was highly available, secure, fast, and above all, maintainable in the long term.

The Transition to the Modern Stack

As the technical lead, I drove the adoption of a modern technology stack. We progressively abandoned monoliths in favor of a service-based architecture and decoupled frontends.

1. TypeScript and Vue as the Standard

Adopting TypeScript was a turning point. Having such an extensive codebase that handles complex notary business logic, strict typing saved us from countless runtime errors. Coupled with Vue.js, we were able to build reactive interfaces, reusable components, and a consistent design system for the entire suite of notin.es products.

2. Infrastructure and DevOps

Code is only part of the equation; how it's deployed is equally vital. We moved from manual deployments or basic scripts to full orchestration.

Using Foreman and Puppet, we automated the massive provisioning of servers (both Windows Server and Linux). We adopted Docker and Proxmox to virtualize and containerize environments, allowing us to spin up exact replicas of production in minutes. This DevOps approach guaranteed us zero-downtime scalability.

Artificial Intelligence Integration

Recently, we've taken our operations to the next level. I've pioneered the orchestration of AI agents within the company's pipeline. We don't just use AI as an advanced autocomplete; we use a multi-agent ecosystem that audits tests, analyzes complex deployment failures, and proposes real-time infrastructure optimizations.

Conclusion

Technologically transforming a company in the legal sector isn't something that happens overnight. It requires long-term vision, pragmatic adoption of the right technologies (Node.js, Vue, TypeScript), and an absolute commitment to security and automation.

Today, notin.es operates on a robust technical foundation, ready to scale and face the challenges of the next decade.
